In a world obsessed with the curated, the polished, and the ‘perfect’ Nigerian aesthetic, we chose to look elsewhere. We chose to look at the raw edges, the uncomfortable truths, and the stories that don’t always end in a neat bow.
The Ugly Collective was born from a simple realization: beauty is often a mask, but ‘ugliness’—the raw, the gritty, and the honest—is where the truth lives.
We are a group of eight multidisciplinary artists and writers who refused to wait for permission to be heard. We are not just contributing to the Nigerian landscape; we are tilling the soil to grow something more authentic. From the ink on our pages to the digital strokes on our canvases, our work is a testament to the complexity of being a creator in Nigeria today.
This site is our archive. Our workshop. Our protest. Welcome to the beginning of the narrative.
